    MCL have an immediate vacancy for a Head of Civil Engineering for our client to be based in Guildford with a requirement to travel to offices in London.

    Responsibilities

    We are looking for a Civil Engineer at Associate or Technical Director level. This person will have a proven track record of managing a team of engineers and technicians; demonstrate successful business development in the civil engineering sector and be capable of working with minimal supervision. The role will require frequent travelling between the offices in London and Guilford where the civil engineering teams are currently located and then Leeds as the team is expanded.

     

    The responsibilities of the role include:

    • Overseeing the civil engineering consultancy services provided by our client
    • Prepare business strategies for expanding the civil engineering services and liaise with directors on implementation;
    • Develop the civil engineering business sector of the company;
    • Identify where technical support and mentoring of team is required;
    • Preparing and assisting in the preparation of bids and proposals;
    • Carrying out and coordinating projects, providing technical design best practice;
    • Being responsible for the production of technical design information including calculations, specifications, reports and drawings;
    • Approving designs, assessments and calculations in accordance with quality procedures;
    • Liaising effectively with clients, Local Authorities and other design team members;
    • Undertaking the project management and financial control of the projects

    What you will need to succeed:

     

    Essential

    • Experience in Business Development;
    • Experience in liaising with clients, associated professionals and other disciplines team members on all relevant aspects of projects;
    • Expertise in highways and pavement design;
    • Expertise in Foul and Surface Water drainage including SuDS design;
    • Expertise in preparing Drainage Strategies and Flood Risk Assessments;
    • Ability to use computer modelling packages such as MicroDrainage, PDS, Civil 3D;
    • Experience in the production of specifications and technical reports and feasibility studies;
    • Good knowledge of design standards and codes of practice such as Sewers for Adoption, SuDS Manual (C753), the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, Manual for Streets;
    • Experience in adoptable infrastructure design and the negotiation of Section 104, 106, 38 and 278 Agreements;
    • Experience in liaising with Local Authorities and other stakeholders to obtain necessary technical approvals and consents;
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
    • Good understanding of the CDM Regulations;

    Preferable

    • Able to assist during construction stage, including site inspection and monitoring;
    • Experience of working within a design and build environment as a consultant;
    • Experience in working in new development projects;
    • Experience in flood modelling, flood alleviation schemes design and preparation of SW Management Plans.
